As more people recognize the benefits of labor support, many organizations are offering certification programs.
A typical certification program usually requires the completion of the following:

Attending a 3 day workshop |

Completing an extensive reading list |

Attendance at 3-6 births (depends on certification program) |

Written summaries of births attended |
|
Evaluation of doula at the attended births (by someone else who was there) |
|
Completion of Childbirth Class |
|
Completion of Adult/Infant CPR |
|
Written Exam or Essay |
