As more people recognize the benefits of labor support, many organizations are offering certification programs.

A typical certification program usually requires the completion of the following:

Attending a 3 day workshop

Completing an extensive reading list

Attendance at 3-6 births (depends on certification program)

Written summaries of births attended

Evaluation of doula at the attended births (by someone else who was there)

Completion of Childbirth Class

Completion of Adult/Infant CPR

Written Exam or Essay

Please note that each program has specific requirements.
